During this project, I've learned some interesting things about the Dominican Republic and its culure.  Their culture is very unique and is in some ways similar, but also not, to the U.S.  In America, we try not to judge people at all, but in the Dominican Republic, your appearance can cause someone to hate, or love you.  I found that very strange, because I always thought that the Dominican was a very accepting country.  Also, they are very strict when it comes to dinning and manners.  If things are not done in a specific way, then people can unintentionally be insulted.
Like in most countries, music and dance are also considered to be very important.  I know American's love music, although there is not a national type, or genre of music.  Actually, I think that the U.S. is about the only country that doesn't have a single, large type of music and dance. Also, the food and recipies eaten in the Dominican are usually handed down many generations, so the food tastes the same every time.  My grandparents have their own special recipies that they will tell me later on, so I can relate to that aspect.
My mom and dad have both visited Haiti and the Dominican Republic and they say they liked it there.  They also said that some parts were in extreme poverty and it made them upset.  I would also like to go there someday and see all the things that my research has taught me.
